this is how your themes will look

I think the most exciting thing to come out from E3 this year, regarding the Xbox 360, was hands down the announcement of the Xbox Experience.

Official Portable PSN ID cards for the masses!!

July 14th, 2008 Jermaine

As Sony continues to play catch up with Microsoft, today you can now bring your PSN ID where ever you go…on the internet. We now have an official way to display your PSN ID on various profiles around the net, but it still leaves us wanting for more. As of right now, I don’t think there’s a way to see the current games that I’m playing nor a way to see all the trophies I have gained. I hope Sony implements both of these features in the near future.

If this interest you, go link up your PSN ID here.

5 Things I’ve Learned from Guitar Hero: Aerosmith

July 6th, 2008 Jermaine

5. Mr. Tyler has hot daughters and they clearly didn’t get their looks from him.
I don’t know if it’s because I have the Wii Version or because I play the game when I’m really tired but he’s a pretty scary man to look at. But at least he’s not as scary as Super Jaw.

4. I thought I like Aerosmith way more than I actually do.
Turns out the only song that I really enjoy by them is Dream On. The other is that song from Armageddon but whatever…

3. GH: Aerosmith is a genre of music rather than a nice sampling of everything rock.

Which sucks, plain and simple. I’m not saying the music sucks but I am saying that playing songs in the same vain of each other over and over again blows.

2. They actually ramp up the difficulty quite nicely this time around.

I can actually finish Hard in this game! Maybe they figured only old women would be playing this, so they went ahead and dumb the difficulty down a little so grandma wouldn’t have a stroke trying to get past that stupid METALLICA SONG!!!!  (I’m sorry, I’m projecting again)

1. If you’re not a huge Aerosmith fan, this game isn’t for you.
I’m sure everyone knew this but I can’t be restated enough. I own it because my girlfriend loves Guitar Hero and we play it together. It’s fun playing it with her but there’s no way I’d play this game on my own. Save up your pennies kids and just get the gift that keeps on giving: Rock Band.

Actually, if you don’t own anything but the Wii, you might have to settle for this. Hopefully E3 will bring some good news to you in monogamist console relationships.

LE GOW PSP: I have it along with a video

Unboxing Video of Limited Edition God of War Entertainment Pack from Kryptinite on Vimeo.

As many of you know, I’m a sucker for limited or special editions of pretty much anything, so it’s no surprise that I picked up the Limited Edition God of War Entertainment Pack this Tuesday. To think that I put off playing God of War: Chains of Olympus just in order to buy this package when it came out is beyond me.

I’m surprised how much the little changes Sony made to the PSP changed the way playing games on the system feel. I hated the “analog” nub on the original model and left my PSP collecting dust on my bookshelf. The nub on the new model feels 10 times better and I find myself using it as my default rather than switching the controls to the D-pad. They also made all of the buttons stand out a little more, so you can actually feel feedback when you press down on them.

Gone are the days of my hands cramping up after a 10 minute session with my PSP because the new slim design fits nicely in my gigantic hands. Also, the inclusion of an option to put your PSP on a TV is a nice addition. I think the biggest and best change for me is the fact that I can charge the damn thing through a USB cable now. I can finally retire the ridiculous cables that came with the system.

If you’re thinking about upgrading your current PSP, I’d say do it without any hesitations.

Grand Theft Auto 4: It’s cab time!

Grand Theft Auto 4: Jobs for Little Jacob from Kryptinite on Vimeo.

After 40 plus hours of game time and with 72% of the game completed, I finally beat my first Grand Theft Auto game ever! I’ve played every game in the series thus far and Grand Theft Auto 4 is the first game that actually kept my attention long enough to see it through until the end. Without doing a huge review on it, I’ll just say that I really enjoyed the story and how it kept me guessing throughout the game. I was somewhat emotionally invested in Niko and I just wanted to see the man catch a break.

Now that I’ve beaten the game, it’s time to make some videos! This video displays an easy way to do Jacob’s side missions. I fell in love with the public transportation in the game and used it every chance I got. I’ve logged probably 400 miles in a taxi alone!

I really should get back to Lost Odyssey before Ninja Gaiden II and Metal Gear Solid 4 come out but this is the life of a gamer. Sometimes we don’t finish all the games we start.

Metal Gear Solid Beta: The beginning

April 17th, 2008 Jermaine

Metal Gear Online Beta! Exclusive Trailer from Kryptinite on Vimeo.

So unlike a few unlucky people in the world, I was fortunate enough to have a beta code that actually works. Being overly excited and pumped for the beta, I decided to mess around and see what I could do early. My video above displays what I was able to do. In addition to the 1.01 update that takes years to download, you also have to sign up at Konami for a Konami ID. Once you do this, which I still haven’t been able to at this moment, you will also get a Game ID for MGO itself.

I know, I was thinking the same thing, “Did Nintendo buy Sony?”. No they didn’t, the way it works is this (to my understanding): Konami has it’s own system in place to monitor it’s online games and it’s being used for the first time in the US for MGO. You can find all of that information here. So now the wait begins and I don’t know if I can wait. The trailer did a great job of getting me excited. How about you? Are you excited? Granted, most of us will be playing right up until the 29 of April and we all know what happens on that day. That’s right, it’s International Dance Day.

From Humble Beginnings

April 7th, 2008 Jermaine

I’m just starting to get this blog off the ground and I’m hoping for great things in the future. To know where you are headed in life, you must know where you come from. After the break lies early test subjects of my reviewing skills. Feel free to laugh, I know I did.

My first video review, now with game footage!

April 7th, 2008 Jermaine

This is my first attempt to do a review with the inclusion of game footage from the game I’m covering. I have an awesome title screen, which a close friend Jason created for me, but I didn’t include it in this video yet. There’s a lot of stuff wrong with the video, including my monotone voice, but the more of these I do, the better they will get I hope. So let me know, what do you want to see in a video review? What points would you like me to touch on? If you are a video guru, Jason, what format should I edit in, upload in, all that fun stuff in?

The game I reviewed, quickly, goes by the name of Conan. It’s really a great game if you can find it on the cheap. And remember: THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS!

How I fell in love with Rez

April 7th, 2008 Jermaine

I know I’m late to the party but it’s still going on right? I never got the chance to play Rez on the PS2, so when it was released on Xbox Live I thought I’d give the demo a try. At first I didn’t see what all the hype was about so I searched the Interwebs for guidance. Instantly I was told to go into the Option menu and switch on vibrate because for some reason it is off by default. So I go do this and continue to play the demo, still not understanding what I’m missing. The vibration does add to the game, but it still didn’t make it as special as everyone was saying; so I let it go.

Another week goes by and I keep hearing how good the game is so I decided to go ahead and buy it on a whim, hoping the be enlightened as I play more of the game. I made it to Area 4 without any problems and started to enjoy myself but didn’t have my “OMG” moment.

Then as I reached the boss for this area, it happened:

When I fell in love with Rez HD from Kryptinite on Vimeo.

I don’t know if it was the boss, the way the music and controller vibrated as I surged forward through the tunnel, or maybe it was all the intense colors that were being thrown my way but I fell in love. The way the music vibes with the enemy’s I’m shooting, the feeling of weightlessness, and the since of freedom in this game is what I think makes it amazing. I’m becoming a believer of games that aren’t 8 hours longs because this was an experience I think everyone should have.

As you can see I got owned but that’s not the point. My point is that certain games take awhile to stick and when they do, you all of a sudden have a new understanding and appreciation for the game. I’ve heard that Area 5 is mind-blowing and I need to see it to believe it.
